TL;DR: We don't collect, store, or share any of your data. Everything stays on your device. Period.
Our Privacy Commitment
SavannaQuest is designed with your privacy as the top priority. We believe your safari adventures are yours alone, and we have no interest in tracking, collecting, or profiting from your data.
This privacy policy explains how we handle (or rather, don't handle) your information.
Location Data
SavannaQuest uses your device's GPS to track your safari routes. Here's exactly what happens with your location data:
- Stored locally only: All GPS data is saved directly on your device in the app's private storage
- Never transmitted: We never send your location to our servers, third parties, or anyone else
- You control it: Delete your data anytime through app settings
- Active Safari sessions only: Location is tracked when you start a Safari session
- Background tracking during Safari: When a Safari session is active, we track your location in the background to record your complete route, even if you switch apps or lock your phone. Tracking stops when you end the Safari session.
- Park boundary detection: The app monitors when you enter or leave park boundaries to automatically suggest starting/ending Safari sessions. This feature can be disabled in Settings.
What We DON'T Collect
Unlike most apps, we deliberately avoid collecting:
- β No user accounts or email addresses
- β No analytics or usage tracking
- β No advertising IDs or tracking pixels
- β No crash reports with personal data
- β No device fingerprinting
- β No third-party data sharing
- β No social media integration
- β No cookies or web beacons
- β No contact list access
- β No photo metadata collection
Offline Maps
Map tiles are downloaded and stored on your device during app installation. These maps:
- Work completely offline
- Require no internet connection to use
- Don't communicate with any servers
- Are based on OpenStreetMap data (open source and publicly available)
- Are stored in the app's private storage area
Map data is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL).
Permissions We Request
Location Access (Required)
Required to track your safari routes and show your position on the map. We request:
- "Always Allow" permission for background tracking during active Safari sessions
- "Precise Location" for accurate GPS tracking
- Location data is only collected during active Safari sessions
- Park boundary detection: Monitors when you enter/exit parks (can be disabled in Settings)
Storage Access (Automatic)
Used to save offline maps and your safari route history on your device. No cloud storage or external servers involved.
Photo Library (Future Feature - Optional)
If we add the ability to attach photos to waypoints, you'll be able to optionally grant photo access. This will only be used to select photos you want to attach to specific locations. We will never scan or access your photo library without explicit permission.
Your Data Rights
Since all data stays on your device, you have complete control:
- Access: View all your safari data anytime in the app
- Export: Future feature to export routes as GPX files
- Delete: Clear individual safaris or all data through Settings
- Uninstall: Deleting the app removes all associated data from your device
You don't need to contact us to exercise these rights - you have direct control through the app.
Children's Privacy
SavannaQuest is suitable for all ages. Since we don't collect any personal information, there are no special privacy concerns for children using the app. Parents can review the app's location permissions in device settings.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our privacy practices, we will:
- Update this page with the new policy
- Change the "Last updated" date at the top
- Notify users through an in-app message for significant changes
- Never start collecting data without making it very clear and getting your consent
We will never make changes that reduce your privacy without explicit opt-in consent.
Third-Party Services
SavannaQuest does not use:
- Analytics services (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
- Advertising networks
- Crash reporting services that collect personal data
- Social media SDKs
- Cloud storage services
The app is completely self-contained and does not communicate with any external services after initial download.
Data Security
Your safari data is protected by your device's built-in security features:
- Data is stored in the app's sandboxed storage (inaccessible to other apps)
- iOS/Android encryption protects data at rest
- Your device passcode/biometric lock protects access
We recommend:
- Using a strong device passcode or biometric lock
- Keeping your operating system up to date
- Being cautious when sharing your device with others
International Use
SavannaQuest is designed for use in African safari parks but can be downloaded worldwide. Since all data stays on your device, there are no cross-border data transfers or international privacy concerns.
GDPR Compliance
While SavannaQuest doesn't collect personal data, we respect GDPR principles:
- Data Minimization: We collect zero personal data
- Purpose Limitation: Location is only used for route tracking
- Storage Limitation: You control how long data is kept
- Transparency: This policy explains everything clearly
- User Rights: You have full control over your data
